Backpacks ARE life!

Updated: Jul 20, 2022

Everybody needs more than one backpack. EVERYBODY.

Sometimes, you're just walking down to the closest Starbucks to 'plug-in' for a work session. Other times you're flying to Hong Kong and 'carrying one on'. Maybe you're day-hiking up to Blue-Lake or biking the Burke-Gillman...Maybe you're a running or biking commuter, with a need to show up every day on the other side with a bunch of well-organized and specific gear! (...and maybe a change of clothes!)

Whatever your story, you're going to need a beautiful pack with a smart design that's taken YOUR specific intended usage-of-the-moment into consideration.

Tom Lukens and F3Design have been making smart backpack solutions for our ODM clients' wildly varied needs for a long time and we hope you'll consider our creative and project management services when considering to add a pack to your lineup. Take a look at some of our work within this fluid product category and let us know your thoughts or questions!

Here is a great 'Business Back-pack' we designed for SanMar's, 'Port Authority' line.

This one's a great every day pack, with a large inner main cavity, a padded laptop pocket with exterior zip-access, a hard-molded, a protective pocket on top for easy access to more fragile gear, like sunglasses, phone, etc. SanMar is the world's biggest 'B-to-B' supplier, so our design includes spaces for custom print or embroidery in several key spots... (Right now, this one's my 'go-to' for plugging-in and working remotely!)

Here's another great pack from the same Port Authority line of merch, from SanMar.

This one is lower profile and there-fore, designed for a bit more active use. It's a great one for carrying on to a plane OR for a long bike ride, etc. The profile is specifically designed to avoid conflict with a bike helmet, and the back has cushions raised strategically, to allow air-flow-through while riding! I used this one recently for a one-night-visit to see a client in LA. Plenty of space for segregating clothes and toiletries from laptop, notebooks and documents, etc...

This one's specifically for athletic trainers to organize and carry their working gear onto the fields of sporting contests. The client here is Cramer Sports Medicine, which is a leader in manufacture and delivery of sports medicine products for Athletic trainers. I have personally seen this bag on the sidelines of televised NCAA football games I have been watching, several times already! (I always look!) This meticulously designed bag was built to fit over 20 of the client's existing products, including tape rolls, water bottles, the green massage roller you can see there, the plastic organizing containers visible in the open bag on the right...and many more Cramer products. Note that the zippered, bottom compartment is a fully thermal-lined and water-tight ice carrier, capable of holding over 1.75 cubic feet of ice for treating sprains and abrasions on the field.

Whether developing with a factory, in person or remotely...the key to your pack pro-duct's success WILL lie in the quality of the tech pack instructions you send at the project's outset!

Here are examples of descriptive illust-rations from the tech-packs of two of the backpacks shown above. Obviously, product specifications for items to be de-veloped remotely must be meticulous with regard to ALL details!

In the beginning of our development of YOUR backpack product...We will likely follow our initial discussions about the details your pack should include, with a drawing like the one below, which assures that everyone is visualizing the same design details from a VERY early stage in the project.

Let's build YOUR backpack now. When you're ready, we'll be here!
